Student Correspondence Notice:
Course-related and student inquiries are usually processed within 48 business hours. Your Weekly Drop-In Opportunity – In-Person Office Hours
These weekly sessions are dedicated entirely to you. You are always welcome to drop by in person to ask quick questions, discuss course topics, or seek academic guidance. No formal appointment is strictly required, though highly recommended.
Location: Room 2.233
Availability: During regular Open Office Hours (or by dedicated appointment).
How it works: To ensure a smooth schedule and minimize your waiting time, you are highly encouraged to secure a time slot in advance via StudIP.
Walk-ins (No Appointment)
Spontaneous visitors without a booking are always welcome. Please note, however, that walk-ins are accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis during open gaps between scheduled appointments.
To ensure professional boundaries and equal access, we operate under a strict Fairness Guarantee:
The 20-Minute Rule: If you arrive at least 20 minutes before the official end of the office hours and are willing to wait, Mr. Siegert guarantees he will see you – even if the session has to run slightly overtime.
Late Arrivals: Anyone arriving within the final 20 minutes of the session cannot be guaranteed a consultation if the queue is already full. Should time run out, you will be asked to secure a priority slot via StudIP for the following week.
Preparation Standard:
Unsure how to prepare? New to university life or attending Mr. Siegert's office hours for the first time? To make the most of your session and ensure a highly efficient meeting, you are strongly encouraged to review the short Office Hours Preparation Guide (PDF). It outlines how to structure your questions and what to expect. Since effectiveness is etiquette.
Why Virtual Office Hours? – The Idea Behind It
If you cannot visit the office in person but require a more effective way to communicate than a phone call, virtual office hours are an ideal solution. Recognizing this challenge from his own student days, Mr. Siegert introduced this option to ensure personal guidance remains easily accessible for everyone.
Platforms: Zoom
Availability: By appointment OR as a Virtual Walk-in during regular Open Office Hours.
Registration: Please use StudIP to book a dedicated slot.
Virtual Walk-ins (No Appointment)
If you prefer not to book a slot, you are welcome to join virtually during regular Open Office Hours. Simply enter the Zoom meeting and wait in the virtual waiting room until you are admitted.
Please note that the exact same guidelines and fairness policies apply as for our in-person sessions:
First-Come, First-Served: Virtual walk-ins will be accommodated during open gaps between scheduled appointments.
The 20-Minute Rule: To benefit from our Fairness Guarantee, you must enter the virtual waiting room at least 20 minutes before the official end of the office hours.
Late Arrivals: Anyone signing in during the final 20 minutes cannot be guaranteed a consultation if the queue is already full. Should time run out, please secure a priority slot via StudIP for the following week.
